How to: Make a backup of the Registry.
Solution:
Run REGEDIT and use the Export feature.
CAUTION: Backing up the Registry files System.dat and User.dat, should be done before editing the Registry. Some changes to the Registry may introduce problems that force you to reinstall Windows 95, which may overwrite any data not backed up. Any changes made in the Registry Editor are recorded as you make them and are permanent; there is NO 'Close without saving', 'Cancel', or 'Undo' option available in the Registry Editor. The only way to retrieve previous settings is through the backed-up Registry files, System.dat and User.dat.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Run...'. (The 'Run' dialog box appears.)
3) Type REGEDIT in the 'Open' box to start the Windows 95 Registry Editor.
4) Click 'OK'.
5) Do one of the following, depending on what you want to export (i.e., back up):
a) To export the entire Registry:
1] Select the 'Registry' menu and select 'Export Registry File...'. (The 'Export Registry File' dialog box appears.)
2] Select the 'All' radio button in the 'Export range' group.
b) To export only a section:
1] Select the branch to be exported.
2] Select the 'Registry' menu and select 'Export Registry File...'. (The 'Export Registry File' dialog box appears.)
3] Select the 'Selected Branch' radio button in the 'Export range' group. (The name selected in step 5)b)1] appears in the 'Selected Branch' box.)
NOTE: This should automatically be done when you open the dialog box.

NOTE: To restore the Registry just exported, select the 'Registry' menu and select 'Import Registry File...'.
